This book springs from a brief and brilliant marriage between two art forms, one venerable, wealthy and well-loved, the other young, smart and fesity. The Hollywood musical and vanguard photography came together while Annie, the play based on the comic strip, was becoming a film.
An invitation was made to nine photographers—five with established art-world reputations, four of younger talent—to photograph whatever they wished on the Est and West coast sets of Annie.
